Last weekend at Scottish Short Course Championships Archie Goodburn showed lightning speed. At just 14 years of age he made his mark amongst the senior swimmers.

Starting with a bang, Archie picked up a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly, breaking the Scottish age group record and junior record in a time of 54.48. Diving into the 50m breaststroke, Archie yet again broke the Scottish age group record and Scottish junior record in a time of 28.05. He qualified for the final of the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:01.52, breaking another Scottish age group record and Scottish junior record with a huge 1.7 second PB. Although qualifying for the final Archie had to withdraw to make his flight to Japan for a training camp with the British swimming team.

Just a few days after Scottish Short Course, all eyes were on Sheffield for the English National Winter Long Course Championships, which doubled as final Team England selection for the Commonwealth Games.

Elliot Clogg
Elliot Clogg recently added modelling to his resume after starring in the Funky Trunks Wild Water campaign.

Elliot Clogg kicked of the action on day one. In a terrific race he was pipped to third in the men's 100m backstroke by 0.1 of a second in a time of 54.88. Elliot also finished 5th in the 200m backstroke and just missed out again on the medals in the 200m freestyle.

The men's 50m butterfly was a spectacular race as our F-Teamers clinched gold in both the junior and senior category. Jacob Peters swam to victory in the senior event, winning in a time of 24.28, whilst Matthew Richards took out the junior final, clocking a time of 25.75. Jacob had a phenomenal 200m butterfly where he swam a huge PB of 1:57.16, taking silver and swimming under the Commonwealth Games QT.

"I'm over the moon. I was closer to the 100m butterfly Commonwealth QT coming into the meet so I'm chuffed to have swam so fast in the 200m."

Last up for him was the 100m butterfly and Jacob finished with a bang, winning gold in a new 17-year-old British age group record in a time of 52.92. Job done!

Matt Richards
Matt Richards shows off his guns and Christmas spirit!

Matt Richards added several junior golds to his medal tally, picking up the title in the 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 50m freestyle and the 100m freestyle where he also broke the 14-year-old British age group record in a superb time of 52.44!

"I'm delighted with my 100m freestyle record, it's really nice to swim fast at this meet as I've been working really hard leading up to it."

Matt also picked up junior bronze in both the 200m individual medley and 200m butterfly.

Sheffield swimmer Joe Litchfield showed off his talents this week winning double medley gold. Joe swam a PB of 4:18.70 in the 400m individual medley, just missing the Commonwealth Games QT, and finished in a time of 2:00.58 in the shorter 200m distance after previously swimming the Commonwealth QT in the summer. He was touched out to finish 4th in the 200m butterfly in a time of 1:59.10.

Tom Derbyshire was in action in the 1500m freestyle where he clinched silver in a time of 15:31.21.

Both Joe and Jacob now wait to see if they have made the cut for Team England! Best of Luck boys!
