F-Team Set To Race Across Europe

7 December 2017

The Funky Trunks F-Team are gearing up for a tough week of racing!

This month, not only are we counting down to Christmas day, but also the Scottish Short Course Championships, European Short Course Championships, English Winter Long Course and Portuguese Nationals!

Archie Goodburn will be the first of our F-Teamers to race as he dives into Scottish Short course on Friday 8th December.

Richard & Brendan
Richard Nagy and Brendan Hyland are gearing up for Euro Champs.

The 13th of December marks the start of the European Short Course Championships in Copenhagen and two of our F-Teamers will be in action. Whilst the rest of his Sheffield teammates will be racing back on home soil, Richard Nagy will step up to the block for Slovenia on day one in the men's 400m freestyle. He will then follow with both the 200m and 400m individual medley.

Brendan Hyland will represent Ireland in the men's 100m and 200m butterfly as well as the 200m freestyle.

"My prep is going really well. I'm squatting and lifting heavier than ever before so I'm hoping to use this to my advantage and work the turns at Europeans. I'm also pretty excited to race the 200m free as this is a fairly new event for me to race on the international stage."

Joe Litchfield
Joe Litchfield is looking to join brother Max for the Commonwealth Games 2018.

The English Winter Long Course will take place from December 13-17 in Sheffield at Ponds Forge where local lad Joe Litchfield will be aiming high as he hopes to qualify for the Commonwealth Games. After swimming under the consideration time already in the 200m individual medley at the University Games, we have no doubt Joe will be capable of doing just the thing. He will also race in the 400m individual medley and the men's 200m butterfly.

Elliot Clogg
Elliott will compete at Winter Champs in both fly and back events.

New to Loughborough this season, Elliot Clogg will be hoping to lay the gauntlet down in the double-double, as he will compete in both the 100m and 200m butterfly and backstroke events.

Jacob Peters has been setting short course PB's so far this season so we're looking forward to seeing him dominate as he hopes to swim the Commonwealth consideration time in the 100m butterfly.

"I was 0.11 away from a qualifying time when I swam at the World Juniors so I am hoping to swim it in Sheffield." He will also race in the 50m and 100m backstroke and the longer distance, the 200m butterfly.

 Tom Derbyshire
Tom recently came back from the sunny Gold Coast in Australia!

After performing at his best last summer, Bath swimmer Tom Derbyshire will compete in the 400m and 1500m freestyle. After a few weeks of hard work in the Australian sunshine it would be nice to see Tom with not only a golden tan, but also a medal or two to match!

This season Michael Gunning moved to Stockport Metro and has been looking forward to English Long course where he will race the 100m and 200m butterfly.

"We've never raced a Long Course Nationals this early on in the season before so it will be interesting to see where I'm at this side of Christmas. My training has been going really well and I'm hoping to transfer the skills from training that I've been working on into racing."

Michael Gunning
Michael Gunning is ready to take on Winter Champs!

Young gun Matthew Richards from Royal Wolverhampton School is already flying in the pool this season. Just last weekend Matt smashed the boy's 14-year-old 200m freestyle British Record, lowing the time from heat to final to a 1:51.2.

"I am very pleased to have swam so fast. I want to keep building on my swims at English Winter meet where I'm hoping to win a few more gold medals."

Alongside the 200m Matt will swim in the 50m and 100m freestyle as well as the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly. He will finish off with the 200 individual medley... Busy busy!

From December 8-10 Portugal swimmer Taigo Costa will race in a hectic schedule of events, hoping to score as many points for his team as well as pick up some medals of his own at Portuguese Nationals. Tiago will compete in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle as well as the 4x100 freestyle, 4x100 individual medley, 4x200 freestyle, 4x50 freestyle and 4x50 individual medley relays. We're not sure he'll have any time to catch his breath! Go smash it!
