F-Team dominate at SC champs

31 October 2017

Travis Mahoney
Travis Mahoney was first up to the block in the 100m freestyle.

Being an F-Teamer pretty much makes you a superhero! That's right, our guys channelled their inner funk at Australian short course champs and ruled the pool; between them winning plenty of medals and more importantly earning those bragging rights.

First to step up to the block was Travis Mahoney in the men's 100m freestyle, doing so with a bang! He claimed bronze in a time of 48.17, just piping fellow F-Teamer Zac Incerti who finished 4th in a new PB of 48.87. Mahoney's success continued into day 2, as he won gold in the men's 200m backstroke and silver in the 200m individual medley in impressive times, well clear of the rest of the field. Despite his busy start to the meet he also clinched victory in the longer 400 individual medley in a superb time of 4.07.15. Nice work Trav!

Tommy and Blair
F-teamer Blair Evans talks tactics with Tommy Sucipto whether to do some dive starts or hit the showers

Tommy Sucipto, Ryan Roche and New Zealand swimmer Julian Layton went head to head in all three breaststroke events. After a speedy 50 on day 1, the 100 breaststroke separated the boys. Tommy finished a superb second in a time of 58.86, and Ryan, although just missing out on the final, swam a PB in a time of 1.00.72 edging ever closer to the 60 second barrier. Tommy just managed to get his hands on the wall first in the 200 finishing 6th in a time of 2.10.92, closely followed by Ryan in 8th with 2.11.77 and Julian 11th in 2.14.45. We wouldn't like to pick between these three for a relay spot... would you?

Julian also swam the men's 400IM where he finished 13th.

After finishing 11th, just shy of a place in the men's 100m freestyle final, Zac Attard had a lot to prove in the 200 freestyle, and boy he did just that! He swam an incredible 1.45.89 clear of the field to win that all-important gold medal, and become short course champion. Zac also swam in the men's 100 butterfly finishing 17th and 50 freestyle finishing 22nd, but after his awesome 200 can you blame him for being a little tired...

Jack McLoughlin
Jack saved his best swim till last, winning a silver medal in the 1500m

Ethan Owens, and Jack McLoughlin battled it out on day 1 in the 400 freestyle. Both boys swam under their entry time as Ethan finished 8th in a time of 3.48.59 and Jack claiming the bronze medal! In the 800-meter freestyle, it was Ethan who swam to victory winning bronze in 7.58.94. He also placed 5th in the 1500 freestyle. However, Jack saved his best swim till last, winning a bronze medal in the 1500 in a cracking time of 14.53.18. Not bad at all guys as those are some pretty gruelling events!

Mitchell Killduff and Sean Russo

Swimmers Logan Powell, Braedan Jason, Mitchell Killduff, Jacob Templeton, and Sean Russo all had a very successful weekend.

Mitchell didn't take his foot of the gas, winning medal after medal all weekend! It started with gold in the 400m freestyle as well as 50 and 100 butterfly. He also took silver as he finished runner up in the 50 freestyle, and bronze in the 100-metre freestyle! We're not quite sure he won enough medals, are you? The 100 freestyle saw 3 other F-Teamers compete. Sean finished in 7th, Jacob in 5th, and Braedan 2nd taking home the silver wear. Braedan added a 7th in the 50 free and a 6th place finish in the 100 butterfly to his list of results.

Jacob Templeton
Jacob Templeton swam a PB in the 200m IM

Sean also finished second in the 100 backstroke and swam personal best times in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. Jacob too swam a personal best time in the 200 individual medley, as well as the 100 butterfly where he finished 5th. Logan finished 8th in the 100 fly in a time of 1.04.32, and was just shy of his best time in the 100 freestyle.

Great work Funky Trunkers, it's a big season ahead culminating in Comm Games Trials, so it's back to hard training for the boys.
