Tour De Cure

7 October 2019

Allez Allez

Australian sports broadcaster and loyal Funky Trunker, Mark Beretta, spun into motion a fundraiser for cancer research charity, Tour de Cure, throughout the duration of the Tour de France. Proceeds from the sale of the Tour-inspired Funky Trunks print Allez Allez were donated to Tour de Cure who are supporting the cancer research of Dr. Matt Dun. Dr Dun is leading research into a deadly brain tumour called DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) following his daughter's diagnosis with the horrible condition. Working for Dr. Dun is Tabitha McLachlan, the wife of Funky Trunks athlete Stewart McLachlan, Australian paddleboard champion, world record holder and 4 x Malaki 2 Oahu champion. Still with us?

DIPG has no effective treatments and children are given less than 10 months to live after diagnosis. Dr. Dun refused to let this be the case for his daughter, so he and his research team set up the charity RUNDIPG to help fund the important research he wanted to undertake for his daughter and for all children with DIPG.

The charity encourages everyone to participate in active events. Tabitha started running and completed her first marathon last year with only 5 weeks of training! The charity continued to gain traction with people raising money while completing activities and competing in organised swimming, running and cycling events. Dr. Dun's story caught Mark Beretta's attention and earlier this year he announced that Tour de Cure Australia would donate $100,000 to his important research. Tabitha will also continue to run marathons to raise awareness for this charity and has applied to become part of the next Tour de Cure Signature tour in March.

It's incredible work that Dr. Dun, Tabitha McLachlan and the team at Tour de Cure are doing and there are plenty of Funky Trunkers like Mark Beretta, Stew and all our awesome customers who so excited to help support them. Thanks team!
