F-Teamers smashed it out at the trials

6 March 2018

 Zac Incerti
We will be seeing Zac racing in the pool very soon at the Commonwealth Games!

It all seems a bit quiet after a crazy, intense and exciting four days of swimming at the Commonwealth Games Trials up on the Gold Coast this past weekend. While the athletes are resting their muscles, reflecting on their achievements and possibly having a pizza or two, here's a quick summary of the highlights from our awesome F-Team athletes.

Western Australian and Broome native Zac Incerti won gold in the 50m backstroke on the final day after a rough start to the championships. The race schedule worked in his favour with Mitch Larkin having just swum a 400IM right before the 50m backstroke final. According to Zac, his move from Broome to Perth was a hard one but "it's all worth it now!" We are pumped to see Zac get up again at the Commonwealth Games with a chance to race in the 4 x 100m freestyle, and the 100m back.

Josh Beaver newly signed F-Teamer didn't disappoint in the pool!

Rookie F-Teamer and Commonwealth Games veteran, Josh Beaver cemented his spot on the 2018 team with an impressive third place finish in the 200m backstroke. Josh joined the Northcote Swimming Club at the start of the year and his coach, fellow Olympian and Commonwealth Games swimmer, Ash Delaney couldn't be prouder of his hard work and dedication.

Travis Mahoney pulled off a sensational double IM campaign at the Championships, coming away with two bronze medals. His 400IM was a nail-biter with Travis touching the wall 0.6 seconds behind silver medalist, Jared Gilliland.

Blink and you would have missed the top three touch the wall in the 50m breaststroke final but Tommy Sucipto held off a young gun to snatch the bronze. With a few more laps under his belt than our sprinters, Ethan Owens finished off an inspiring championships with 8th in the 1500m final in a time of 15:49.00. Logan Powell and Blake Cochrane were thrilled to have both earned their spots on the Commonwealth Games Team with a silver in the 100m backstroke para sport and a bronze in the 100m breaststroke para sport respectively. F-Teamer Mitchell Kilduff set a cracking pace in his 200m freestyle para sport final to finish third, just under the 2 minute mark.

 Jack McLoughlin
Jack McLoughlin claimed a PB and a silver medal in the 400m freestyle

In the last event of the championships, it was a battle of the two distance Olympians Mack vs Jack and it was F-Teamer Jack McLoughlin fired up for an incredible win! In the post-race interview Mack Horton admitted that the race was a battle and that Jack did an awesome job getting him off the walls. It was the end of a huge week for Jack having already qualified for the Commonwealth Games team with a close second and huge PB in the 400m freestyle. He is now headed to his first Commonwealth Games for Australia in April

It was a fantastic four days of non-stop action with our F-Teamers out in full force and posting such strong times. Now back to the grind?
